The Gift of Hope
December 18, 2014

What do you think of when you think of the Christmas season? I think for many of us it holds us to places, moments and seasons that were not as merry as we would like them to be.  In fact, I know that this time of year brings a lot of brokenness to the forefront of our lives.  For many of us it points to painful moments, scars, loneliness that only seem to come alive when all the lights start to go up.  The songs on the radio are all filled with joy and cheer. Everyone around seems to be so merry and cheery but inside you are still left with all this motion of emotions stirring in your soul. I don't know if there is a simple solution to this.  I do know this, this  time of year always puts me into a space of reflection.  Not just a reflection of this time of year but for the whole year.  I do my best to remember who I am.  I have to remind myself that I'm not those things, those places and those moments.  I know that God has gone before me and has held each of those things and made them His.  They are no longer mine to endure.  Sometimes it's in those trigger moments that things attempt to creep in.  These things remind me of the storms of the past.  I think we have to be better at remembering that these things are not the definition of our lives.

My hope for each of you is that this season as you contemplate on all that is your life, you will remember the purpose and Hope that each of you carry inside.  I understand that sometimes Hope fades inside but always remember that Hope is always in the business of finding us, calling to us and helping us to remember who we are. For me personally that Hope that I refer to is God.  God has been my Hope over the years.   This Christmas season I hope that you will be reminded that you are never alone and that God is in every part of your life with you.  Will you begin to believe again in everything you ever dreamed possible for your life.  My hope for each of you is that those dreams don't just remain dreams.  I want to see them become apart of your story.  I hope that all the things that haven't always been good around this time of year will start to fade and the amazing parts of life will start to lead you into new seasons.

Thank you for a wonderful blog Tony. You write with conviction. I think you hit a sore spot in our culture, that a lot of people can identify with. Instead of ignoring the problem you have addressed it, which I find brave!

I also appreciate that you offer a solution: "This Christmas season I hope that you will be reminded that you are never alone and that God is in every part of your life with you. Will you begin to believe again in everything you ever dreamed possible for your life. My hope for each of you is that those dreams don't just remain dreams."

There is no point in addressing flaws if you don't offer a solution to the problem, thus, it is helpful and thoughtful of you to give the readers hope.
